Issacs syndrome (also known as neuromyotonia, Isaacs-Mertens syndrome, continuous muscle fiber activation syndrome, and quantum squander syndrome) is a rare neuromuscular condition triggered by hyperexcitability and constant burning of peripheral nerve axons that stimulate muscle fibers. Symptoms, include increasing muscle contraction, constantly contracting or twitching muscles (myokymia), cramping, excessive sweating, and impaired muscle relaxation, occur often during sleep or while persons are under general anesthesia.
